Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin that causes muscle paralysis. This toxin is produced by Clostridium botulinum which is the bacteria that causes botulism. Aesthetically, Botox is the only FDA-approved treatment for dynamic wrinkles.

Anesthesia is not necessary for Botox. To minimize bruising, patients are recommended to discontinue any medication or dietary supplements that have anticoagulant effects (such as aspirin) two weeks prior to treatment.
On the day of treatment, It is suggested to take certain precautions to the treatment area such as by avoiding massage or applying heat (such as hot tub use). It is also advised to avoid activities that cause flushing (such as heavy exercise, drinking alcohol, etc).
